Aerial Film Production

An aerial shot is more than a helicopter and camera.  Experience and knowledge are the keys to a successful and safe shoot that adds to a production.

Why Taiga Air Services?  Simply put ... experience, aircraft, crew.  Click here to see a list of our film credits.

The Company

  • Experience - Taiga has a long list of successful shoots from feature films to documentaries and local productions.  In creating our success story, we have had the opportunity to fly all of the most common and not so common helicopter mounts.  These include Paravision, Tyler side mount, Wescam, Space Cam and others.  Taiga believes that a successful aerial shot begins on the drawing board.  From inception to completion, Taiga has the expertise to assist in all aspects of an aerial shoot.
  • Safety - A solid reputation comes with safety and at Taiga, we take this very seriously.  Our safety program exceeds all regulatory standards and is the reason Taiga's record of safety of safe successful operations is second to none.
  • Provider of Choice - The most experienced aerial film service in Central Canada, Taiga is the provider of choice for aerial film.  Combining a highly experienced crew with a well equipped aircraft, we ensure every aspect of our service exceeds your expectations.

The Aircraft

  • Bell 206 Long Ranger - Widely used in the film industry, the Bell 206 Long Ranger is an ideal combination of stability and economy.
  • Pre-equipped Camera Mount - The Paravision nose mounted camera pod is a universal mount for equipment and lenses weighing less than 14 lbs.  A cockpit monitoring station includes pod pan/tilt controller, camera control, audio dubbing, text and GPS coordinate overlay.  The camera pod houses a Sony VX-1000 digital video camera/recorder, however, for alternate formats, a universal mounting plate allows installation of alternate cameras or thermal imagers.  Recently upgraded, and fully controlled in the pan and tilt axis, with joystick mounted controls for the 20 x digital zoom lens, as well as, a rear-mounted 6.5" colour LCD display.
  • Isolated Drive Train - Exclusive to the Bell Long Ranger is the highly effective nodal beam suspension system that isolates inherent rotor vibrations from the cabin.  As well, and specifically for film application, Taiga's strict maintenance requires all suspension system components to be inspected and replaced twice as often as directed by the manufacturer.  Taiga's strict maintenance program and a well designed suspension system provide the highest levels of stability in an aerial platform.
  • Performance - The big brother to the Bell Jet Ranger, the Long Ranger was designed with a larger cabin, swept main rotor blades and a larger power plant.  These performance upgrades improve speeds, agility and are most apparent in chase sequences or a sequence that terminates with the aircraft out of wind or downwind.
  • Cabin Space - Increased seating and cabin volume provides for larger camera units or additional crew to be carried without sacrificing performance or safety.
